John William Loughren, 79, of Coralville, Iowa, formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2022, at Brown Deer Place in Coralville. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion, Iowa. Inurnment will follow at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City.
John was born on July 14, 1942, in Waterloo, Iowa, the son of Joseph John and Helen Margaret (Henry) Loughren. On Aug. 31, 1968, he was united in marriage to Sally Sue Rudd in Prairieburg, Iowa. John worked as a cement mason for Blahnik Construction, retiring in 2001. He was a member of St. Stevens Catholic Church in Central City and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Prairieburg. John enjoyed snowmobile and go kart racing. John will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
John is survived by his son, Mark (Kelly) Loughren of Marion; five grandchildren, Amanda, Heather, Brenden, Jonathan and Jordyn; two sisters, Lorraine Hovey of Evansdale, Iowa, and JoAnn Zeman of Central City; and three brothers, Dick (Shirley) Elliott of Waukon, Iowa, Joe (Karen) Loughren of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Tom (Judy) Loughren of Priarieburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sally; a son, Mikeal; and his two sisters, Patricia Wendell and Margaret “Peg” Smith.
