Joanne Kramer, 86, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, July 14, 2022, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester due to complications from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy which she struggled with for a number of years. Visitation for Joanne will be held, 3 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 17, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Manchester. Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, 18, at First Evangelical Lutheran Church with the Reverends Tony D. Ede and Kurt Pasko presiding. Burial will take place at Oakland Cemetery, Manchester. Funeral Service will be livestream via Facebook by First Evangelical Lutheran Church. Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service is caring for the family.
Joanne was born on Dec. 19, 1935, in Luana, Iowa, the daughter of John and Helen (Miller) Doerring.
She was a 1953 graduate of Luana High School and was active in 4-H, basketball, played clarinet in the band, and sang in the chorus. Joanne attended Luther College for two years and taught for 37 years in Elkader, Fayette and Manchester School Districts. While teaching she was able to complete her education, graduating from Upper Iowa University in 1970. On July 18, 1959, Joanne married Milt L. Kramer from Elkader. Together they had two daughters, Kerry Jo and Jill Ellen.
Joanne retired from teaching in 1997. She remained active with golfing, photography, substitute teaching, quilting at the church, playing bridge, painting rocks, thread crocheting and, of course, baking cinnamon rolls, cookies and biscotti until PSP robbed her abilities starting in 2015.
Joanne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Helen Doerring; and brothers, Raymond, Robert and Keith.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Milt: daughters, Kerry (Kirk) Johnson of Decorah, Iowa, and Jill (Mark) Davidson of Onalaska, Wis.; sisters, Edythe (Paul) Scheidt of Chesterfield, Mo., Nancy Beguin of Onalaska, Sally (Larry) Williams of Waverly, Iowa. Joanne and Milt have seven grandchildren, Ashley, Alexandra, Annalise, Clara, Madeline, Caleb and Ben; and three great-grandchildren, Maryn JoAnn, Wren Ellen, Sonja Jill, and one due in September. Joanne was loved deeply by her family and will be dearly missed by all those who knew her.
Memorials may be directed to The Good Neighbor Society or Camp EWALU.
Milt, Kerry and Jill would like to thank all of those who were instrumental in Joanne’s care over the years. We appreciate all the support that was also given to our family.
