Donna Mae Gelski, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 6, 2022, at the Dennis & Donna Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A visitation will be held from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Monday, July 11, at Marion Christian Church in Marion. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church, conducted by Reverend Bryce Bowers. Burial will follow at Mount Clark Cemetery in Central City, Iowa. Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Marion is assisting the family.
Donna was born on April 8, 1934, in Central City, Iowa, the daughter of Dale and Josephine (Soesbe) Taylor. She graduated from Franklin High School, class of 1953. On Oct. 31, 1953, Donnas was united in marriage to Richard Francis Gelski in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was a member of Marion Christian Church. Donna belonged to TOPS Club for 40-plus years, long serving as the assistant weight recorder. She was the Tops Queen of Iowa in 2016. Alongside raising four boys and being a homemaker, Donna enjoyed babysitting many other little ones for many years. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting and, most of all, morning coffee and lunch with the girls. Donna and Richard purchased a cabin at Lake Delhi and for 20-plus years, enjoyed countless weekends with family and friends.
Donna is survived and lovingly remembered by her three sons, David (Marianne) Gelski of Robins, Kevin (Debra) Gelski of Cedar Rapids and Michael Gelski of Florida; three grandchildren, Amy (Mark) of Cedar Rapids, Christopher (Victoria) of Cedar Rapids and Liz (Ben) of Colorado; three great-grandchildren, Raelee, Winsley and Artemis, and one due in August; and brother, Robert (Kathy) Kaufman of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard; son, Richard “Frank”; parents; and brothers, Derald and Foster.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Donna’s memory may be directed to Marion Christian Church.
