AMES - Iowa State defensive back De'Monte Ruth will be suspended for the South Dakota State game, Matt Campbell announced Friday.
Thursday night, Ruth was pulled over for a traffic violation and was arrested for driving with a suspended license.
'We have a higher standard of excellence in our program and we ask our players to put the team before their actions,” Campbell said according to a statement issued by Iowa State athletics.
Ruth was listed as the starting STAR defensive back - a hybrid safety, cornerback position. His backup on the depth chart is redshirt freshman Richard Bowens.
Earlier this week, it was announced Kamilo Tongamoa would be suspended for the SDSU game stemming from a January OWI.
Last Friday, Campbell suspended four true freshmen for 'multiple incidents of poor choices and behavior. Those four are suspended indefinitely.
