Virginia “Ginnie” Young, 82, of Charles City, passed away Sunday, July 3, 2022, at Unity Point Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa, surrounded by her children.
A memorial service for Virginia Young will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, at New Hope Lutheran Church, 607 North Main St., in Charles City, with Pastor Mathias Wollberg officiating.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the start of the service at the church on Friday.
Virginia “Ginnie” Lou (Ruesink) Young, the daughter of Calvin and Velma (Bestor) Ruesink, was born Nov. 6, 1939, in Lanesboro, Minn. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Harmony High School in Harmony, Minn., in 1957.
Ginnie married Leslie Young in 1959 and the couple made their home in Cedar Rapids. They were blessed with three children: Michelle, Michael and Deneen. The couple later divorced.
Ginnie worked at Cryovac Sealed Air for 37 years before retiring. She moved to Charles City in 2014 from Cedar Rapids. Ginnie loved to read and work crossword puzzles, but her greatest passion was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ginnie is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Michelle Young, Mike (Mary) Young and Deneen (Paul) Ritter; grandchildren, Matt, Philip, Amber, Jordan, Kayle, Tyler, Brooke and Austin; great-grandchildren, Keaton, Bentley, Ellie, Finnegan, Rhett and Robert; sister, Sharon Bonwell; brother, Bill Tate; along with several nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; paternal grandparents, David and Johanna Ruesink; maternal grandparents, George and Mary Bestor; and two sisters, Mary Ann Fisher and Jean Flynn.
