There is no sentiment in pro football.
We know how tight New England Patriots Coach Bill Belichick is with Iowa Coach Kirk Ferentz. The latter worked for the former for three years in Cleveland. Iowa offensive coordinator Brian Ferentz was Belichick's tight ends coach not too many years ago.
But on Saturday, Belichick cut four of the five former Hawkeyes on his roster, including offensive lineman James Ferentz. Also getting pink slips were offensive linemen Cole Croston and Matt Tobin, and wide receiver Riley McCarron. On Sunday, the Patriots signed Croston, Ferentz and McCarron to their practice squad. Tobin signed Monday with the San Francisco 49ers.
Other ex-Hawkeyes who got released on Saturday as NFL teams got down to their 53-player regular-season rosters were”
RB Akrum Wadley, Tennessee
OL Andrew Donnal, Baltimore (claimed by Detroit on waivers)
DL Carl Davis, Baltimore (claimed by Cleveland on waivers)
TE Henry Krieger Coble, L.A. Rams (re-signed by the Rams for their practice squad)
RB LeShun Daniels, Green Bay
K Marshall Koehn, N.Y. Giants
RB James Butler, Oakland
DL Nathan Bazata, Tampa Bay
Also cut was quarterback Jake Rudock, who had been with the Detroit Lions the last two years after playing his senior season at Michigan as a graduate transfer from Iowa. The Lions will re-sign Rudock to their practice squad.
