Charlotte “Char” Louise Manley Blodgett, 81, of Burlington, died Saturday, July 2, 2022, at the Wapello Specialty Care Center in Wapello.
Born Oct. 16, 1940, in Fairfield, Iowa, she was the daughter of Dale and Margaret (Lyons) Edwards.
Char attended Fairfield High School. She was the former state vice president of Iowa Jayceettes and past president of Fort Madison Jayceettes. She organized “Boxes for Boys” for active military serving in Vietnam, was former Welcome Wagon volunteer and was the Iowa State Volunteer for the Family Assistance Program for the Iowa National Guard.
Char served as the executive director for the Burlington Homeless Shelter and was director of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Center in Burlington for 11 years. She was active in family programs for the Iowa National Guard in Des Moines at Camp Dodge and was instrumental in starting the Engineer Ball for the Iowa National Guard in Burlington.
She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Heritage Trust, former member of the US Bank Board of Directors, Eagles Aerie #150 and Burlington Kiwanis.
Char loved her children and adored her grandchildren. They brought her much joy in life, all the way to the end.
She is survived by her daughters, Patricia (Alan) Peck, Robyn (Marty) Abolt, Mickie Blodgett (Ed) Hollenbeck, Rhonda (Frank) Pieper and Bambi (Randy) Helm; granddaughters, Samantha (Eric) Scott, Dakota Blodgett Hollenbeck and Cassidy (Cody) Minton; grandsons, Kyle Hollenbeck and T.J. Beebe; great-grandchildren, Grace Scott, Gunner Scott and Grady Scott’ and many close friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Patricia Logan; and great-granddaughter, Lily Scott.
The funeral service for Char will be 11 a.m. Friday, July 8, at Lunning Chapel. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 9 a.m. until the time of service on Friday.
