Roberta Florence McBurney, 88, of Marion, Iowa, passed away on June 29, 2022, at Winslow House Care Center in Marion. Family will greet friends and family from noon to 2 p.m. Friday, July 8, at Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Marion. A service will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Lafayette Cemetery in Alburnett, Iowa.

Roberta was born on April 3, 1934, in Austin, Minn., the daughter of Claire and Beatrice (Tucker) Hughes. She graduated from Fontanelle (Iowa) High School. On Feb. 19, 1952, Roberta was united in marriage to Ernest Root in LaMoille, Iowa. He preceded her in death. On Aug. 16, 1981, Roberta married Russell McBurney in Toddville, Iowa. He also preceded her in death. She worked in accounting for CRST in Cedar Rapids. Roberta was a member of the Springville Painting Club. She enjoyed painting, gardening and baking. Roberta treasured time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Roberta is survived and lovingly remembered by her son, Elton (Cinda) Root of Winterset, Iowa; four daughters, Rebecca (Mike) Hannam of Marion, Martha (John) Welton of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Grace (Richard) Beitz of Marion and Trudy (David) Thompson of Dundee, Mich.; brother, Arthur Hughes of Houston, Texas; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands, Ernest Root and Russell McBurney; daughter, Amber Sherman; two sisters, Shirley Bolton and Dorothy Kratz; and three grandsons, Robert Beitz, Ricky Beitz and Ernest Root.
