Rita Catherine Lange, 89, of 1894 Village Court, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2022.
Funeral Mass: 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 6, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. The Rev. Aaron Junge will officiate. Friends may call at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home (1st Avenue NE) from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 5, where there will be a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery.
Rita was born on May 13, 1933 in Sibley, Iowa, to Regina and Theodore Voss. She married Edward J. Lange on Jan. 16, 1954, at St. Mathias Church in Muscatine.
Survivors include her daughters, Julie Calvert (Steve) and Jennifer Lange; grandchildren, Tyson Damisch, Cole Calvert and Cassie Calvert; great-grandchildren, Sienna, Austin, Jackson, Riley, Gracelynn, Kendel and Bryn; brothers, Hank, Ted and Jim Voss (Tracy); sister, Donna Voss; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her mother; father; second mother, Clara; her husband, Ed; sisters, Elizabeth, Mary Jean and Marge; and her daughter, Mary Feaker.
Rita graduated from Saint Joseph’s High School in 1951 in Ashton, Iowa. She attended college in St. Paul, Minn., to become a medical laboratory technician. She met Ed in Muscatine, where she finished her training and worked at Muscatine General Hospital. When the family moved to Cedar Rapids for Ed’s job in 1972, she quit working as a lab tech and devoted herself to her family and her home.
Rita enjoyed camping with Ed at Sugar Bottom Campground and in the Florida Keys. She loved playing bridge and dominoes with friends and family. She was known for her kindness, sense of humor, generosity and drinking one Miller Lite daily. She was an outstanding cook, hostess, seamstress, knitter and crafter. She loved the Hawkeyes (Go, Hawks!).
Rita was a devout Catholic. She loved her family, her pets and taking walks. Rita was independent, active and very social. Her granddaughter Cassie and great-grandson Kendel refer to her as an angel and a best friend.
