Jack Seward Sr., 92, of Wellman, died Sunday, June 26, 2022, at Parkview Home in Wellman. His body has been cremated and the family will greet friends from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Wellman Fire Department. A memorial fund has been established for the Wellman Volunteer Fire Department.
Jack was born March 2, 1930, in Cook County Hospital in Chicago, Ill., the son of John and Gladys (Mitchell) Fister, and was later adopted by his aunt and uncle, Wilbert and Mary (Mitchell) Seward. He graduated from Wellman High School in 1948 and served in the United States Coast Guard from 1948 to 1950. On Dec. 31, 1953, he was united in marriage to Juanita Kuhns. He was in the parts department at Wade Company for several years and worked at and was a part owner in Zips Welding and Repair. In 1953 Jack joined the Wellman Volunteer Fire Department and was currently still a member. He enjoyed camping and collecting and restoring antique International tractors and gas engines. For many years he traveled to the Old Threshers Reunion and displayed his tractors and gas engines.
Survivors include his sons, Jack. Jr. (Glenda) Seward of West Chester, Iowa, and James Dean (Deb) Seward of Wellman; six grandchildren, Tim (Hanna) McDowell, Leah (Patrick) Curl, Jedediah (Kailee) Seward, Tyler (Sarah) Seward, Jodee (Chris) Stransky and Ian (Sara) McDowell; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Preceding Jack in death were his wife, Juanita; his birth parents and adoptive parents; and his siblings, Bud (Eldon) Fister, Anna May, Etta May Pribyl, Harvey Fister, Robert Fister, Kathryn Schilder, Edna Hall and an infant brother, David.
