Iowa Valley Habitat for Humanity broke ground Thursday on its first “Women Build” home in Coralville. By the end of this year, organizers hope to have taught more women how to build while constructing a house for a local family that came to the United States 10 years ago in search of a safer, more stable life.

The Iowa Home Grant will pay to construct six new houses in Cedar Valley Habitat for Humanity’s territory, which includes Linn and Benton counties. It’s one of 16 home grants that were announced by Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds on Thursday.
