Glennys Marie (Romine) Read
North Liberty
There are certain people you think will live forever, or least wish they would. Glennys Marie Read was our person and will live forever in our hearts. Glennys passed June 12, 2022, in the beautiful surroundings of The Bird House in Iowa City with her devoted and loving husband Cliff by her side.
Glennys Marie (Romine) Read, the second daughter of Lawrence and Helen Romine, was born July 10, 1939, in the Washington County Hospital. She grew up on her family’s farm near Wellman, Iowa, and graduated from Keota High School in 1957. She moved to Des Moines, where she met her future husband Clifford Dale Read. They married Nov. 15, 1958, and remained married for the rest of her life, together making a pretty great story. They were blessed with seven children.
Glennys had a great sense of humor. She liked a good joke, but also liked to tell a good joke leaving out the swear words, of course. Her children say she always welcomed their friends, if she approved of them, and instilled in them to always help those who were less fortunate. Glennys loved family time, watching the Cubs, Gunsmoke, Jeopardy and good movies along with doing crosswords (which Cliff took over), going to the salon, listening to jazz music, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash, and trying new restaurants. Besides being a hardworking, caring wife and mother, her careers ranged from being a bus driver, nurse's aide, bank employee, medical receptionist, video store employee and Blackjack dealer.
Per her wishes, there will be no funeral. A life celebration will be held at a later date. Her plan, which has been in place for many years, has been to be donated to the University of Iowa Research Lab. Cards can be mailed to Cliff Read at 410 Ashley Ct #315, North Liberty, IA 52317. Any donations received will be redirected to either The Bird House in Iowa City or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
Glennys is survived by her husband of 63 years, Clifford Read; children, Steven (Toni) Read, El Cajon, Calif., Nicholas (Aspen) Read, Idaho City, Idaho, Rachelle (Gary) Chapman, Tipton, Iowa, Jennifer Read, North Liberty, Iowa, Rebecca Read, Wichita, Kan., Matthew (Kerry) Read, Bellingham, Wash.,and Edward (Susan) Read, Ackley, Iowa; 19 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Barbara Timmer, Elaine (Gary) Sondag and Evelyn (Steven) Forbes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence and Helen Romine.
Love is eternal - it transcends the veil of dimension.
