Marilyn E. (Junge) Rieder, 90, passed away on Wednesday, May 25, 2022, at the Keystone Nursing Care Center.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial
will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Newhall, with the Rev. Craig Steimel as celebrant. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 17, also at the church. Memorials may be made in her name to the Newhall Library and the Newhall American Legion Auxiliary.
Marilyn was born on July 8, 1931, in Keystone, to Louie and Emma (Seeck) Junge. She graduated from Keystone High School, with the class of 1949. On Oct. 3, 1950, she was united in marriage to Russell Rieder at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Van Horne.
Her career included working at the Newco Elevator, The House of Chairs, and the Newhall Public Library. She was active in her community as a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Newhall American Legion Auxiliary and was the Junior Auxiliary Leader for many years. For many years, she and Russ traveled in their camper, displaying antique gas engines. Marilyn learned to play the accordion at an early age. She taught accordion, and piano. She won several awards, including a Governor’s award for volunteering with the Newhall Reject Band. She was known for entertaining at both community events and area nursing homes.
She is survived by her children, Patricia (Paul) Petersen of Durango, Colo., Janet (Rod) Butz of Waterloo, Iowa, and Douglas (Sue) Rieder of Jefferson, Iowa; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; her brother, Irvin Junge of Keystone; and her sister-in-law, Dorothy Schulte of Cedar Rapids.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Russell, in 2016; brother, Curtis (Ruth) Junge; two sisters, Dorothy (Lloyd) Petersen and Lois (Delmar) Schlotterbeck; and her sister-in-law, Betty Junge.
