Marlene J. Cooper, 88, of Cedar Rapids, passed away on June 8, 2022, at Heritage Care Initiatives in Cedar Rapids, under the care of Initiatives Hospice. Inurnment at a later date, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Garden of Tranquility. Cedar Memorial Westside Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
Marlene was born Oct. 9, 1933, to George and Velma (Horn) Meier in Rural Cedar County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Merle Cooper on Dec. 29, 1951, at Salem Methodist Church in Cedar Rapids. Marlene worked for Martin Marrieta and CMFZ as Human Resource until retiring in 1997.
Marlene enjoyed reading, camping, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Those left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Sherie (Gayne) Darrow of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Cindy Claus of Corpus Christi, Texas; four grandchildren, Gayne Darrow Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Sonya Darrow of Birno, Czech Republic, Melissa Najera, and Bryan Claus of Corpus Christi, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Nicholas Najera Jr., Alijah Najera and Malen Najera, Bryan Claus Jr., and two great-great-grandchildren of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Marlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Merle; son-in-law, Russ Claus; three brothers, Don Meier, Ken Meier and Duane Meier; and an infant sister, Bonnie.
We wish to thank Heritage Care Initiative and Care Initiative Hospice. They kept Marlene comfortable until her passing.
