Erik Lippold, 65, of Riverside, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at home from natural causes on May 13, 2022.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 10 a.m. to noon, Aug. 27, 2022, at The Kirkwood Room, 515 Kirkwood Ave., Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the family in his name.
Erik William was born May 15, 1956, in Waterloo, to Donald and Helen (Ericksen) Lippold. He grew up in Waterloo and he was in the first class to graduate from Central High School in 1974. He received his Bachelor's degree in business from University of Iowa In 1978. He graduated from University of Iowa with a M.S. in 1982.
Erik became a police officer for the Iowa City Police Department in 1989, where he worked up until his retirement in 2013. He attended rifle marksmanship training, was a firearms instructor and was a bike officer. One year, he led the state for most OWI enforcement. He was also part of the SRT team, a standard field sobriety test instructor, PR24 (baton) instructor and crowd control instructor.
He loved to windsurf, travel and ride motorcycles. He spent his summers driving to Hood River, Ore., to windsurf the gorge.
He is survived by his daughters, Jess Johnson (Matt) and Lilly Lippold; son, Ian Lippold (Danette); and sisters, Kathy Smith and Cinde Owen.
Erik was preceded in death by his parents, Don and Helen Lippold; and brother, Tom Lippold.
