R. Steven Glessner, 66, of Cedar Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, Aug. 5, 2020.
A graveside celebration of Steve’s life will be held on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Cedar Memorial Cemetery.
Steve was born on Feb. 9, 1954, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Ray and Irma (Ungs) Glessner. He was a 1972 graduate of Regis High School and a 1975 graduate of Kirkwood Community College. He had Bachelor of Arts degrees in Business Administration from the University of Northern Iowa in 1978 for Management and Coe College in 1987 for Computer Science.
Steve had a quick wit and always had a twinkle in his eyes. Even when wearing a mask during the pandemic, it was hard to miss that mischievous twinkle. Steve always took the time to talk to you and would say something guaranteed to make you smile.
During his teen and young adult years, he raced cars. His car racing was a well-kept secret until he won at a track in Cedar Falls. His win made the local paper, read by one of his uncles, who then called Steve’s parents to congratulate them on Steve’s win. Needless to say, Ray and Irma were shocked to learn that Steve was racing. That was the end to his racing days, at least we think it was! Steve never said, but the eyes always twinkled when he was asked about car racing! Steve also enjoyed refinishing furniture and was an avid reader.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond S. Glessner and Irma (Ungs) Glessner.
Steve is survived by his sister, Mary (John Bouse) of Western Springs, Ill., and his brother, William (Bill) Glessner of Chanhassan, Minn. He is further survived by his niece, Anne Bouse, San Francisco, Calif.; his nephew, Charles (Susi) Bouse, Lillington, N.C.; and his great-nieces and -nephew, Emilia, Liam and Nadiana Bouse.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make someone smile every day – with a kind word and a twinkle in your eye!
