Diane Marlene Maltby, 84, of Cedar Rapids, (a lifelong resident of Marion), died Sunday, June 5, 2022, at UnityPoint-St. Luke’s Hospital after complications from a fall. Services are pending. Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Morton Maltby; her daughters, Merlene (Jeff) Burry of Alma, Colo., Monica (Brian) Cochran of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Monette (Gary) Waller of Marion, Iowa; her grandchildren, Eric Burry of Longmont, Colo., Shanna (Spencer) Stump of North Liberty, Iowa, and Karyn Burry of Aurora, Colo.; and her great-grandchildren, Olivia and Pricilla Burry. Also surviving is her sister, Caroyl (Rick) Clayton of Tubac, Ariz. She was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers and a sister.
Diane was born Sept. 23, 1937, in Clarion, Iowa, the daughter of Russell and Charlotte (Hull) Long. She married Morton Merle Maltby on Nov. 23, 1958, in Clarion, Iowa. Diane was a homemaker always caring for her family. She was a fabulous cook and made the best cookies. Diane and Morton have been retired for 30 years and spent 27 of those years wintering in Texas where she carried on her mother’s legacy of making quilts for anyone in need.
