Eastern Iowa schools earned more than $69,000 through Hy-Vee’s Cash 4 Students program this year.
This fundraising program allows schools to earn money by saving Hy-Vee receipts brought in by students and staff.
For every $200 in receipts, $1 is earned — 50 percent as a monetary donation and 50 percent in Hy-Vee gift cards.
The 89 schools that participated received an average of $775 per school. The total amount raised was $69,016, which came from $13.8 million in Hy-Vee receipts.
Recipients of the 2021-22 Cash 4 Students included schools in the Cedar Rapids, College Community, Linn-Mar and Marion school districts.
Checks were presented to area schools Tuesday at the Cedar Rapids Public Library by representatives from Cedar Rapids and Marion Hy-Vee Food Stores and Drugstores. The schools use the money and gift cards for special projects.
Since the program began in 2013, $975,644 has been donated to participating schools, Hy-Vee officials said.
