Zahorik will be a reliable voice for SD 39

The primary election is coming up and the voters of State Senate District 39 have a choice to make between union organizer Joe Zahorik and state Rep. Liz Bennett. This is a Democratic primary with two progressive candidates vying for the seat. Both candidates will be advocates for the underdog, both will always vote in favor of whoever is being victimized or attacked, and both will push for legislation that strives toward equity and equality. So the choice comes down to who will be a more reliable state senator.
After reading the recent Gazette article by Todd Dorman in which Rep. Bennett admits to missing a key vote, I decided to dig a little deeper and found an online scorecard that was shared through a Gazette article. The scorecard shows that Rep. Bennett missed 51 out of 366 votes in 2021. This means she missed 14 percent of the votes and ranks her as the 10th most absent member of the House that year. To me, this means that Rep. Bennett missed 51 opportunities to stand up for the people of Iowa.
Given everything that is going on in our state right now, we need someone in the state Senate who will be there every day and be a reliable and consistent voice for us. This district deserves full time representation. If you agree, I hope you’ll get out to the polls and vote for Joe Zahorik on June 7.
