$20 million in grants set for not-for-profit expansions

A $20 million in grants to assist Iowa not-for-profits expand was announced Thursday by the Governor’s Office.
Funding will be made available by the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
The Nonprofit Innovation Fund will provide competitive grants to help not-for-profits “make transformational investments in vertical infrastructure that will enable them to offer additional services or help more Iowans,” according to a news release.
Applications will be accepted beginning June 27 at iowagrants.gov.
“Iowa nonprofits provide critical support to Iowans most in need,” Gov. Kim Reynolds said in the release.
“While these organizations work around the clock to meet today’s needs, the Nonprofit Innovation Fund will provide innovative and transformational investments to help prepare Iowans for tomorrow.”
Not-for-profits with shovel-ready projects that would expand the number of services that they provide and/or projects that increase the number of Iowans served, the release said.
Eligible expenses can include construction and acquisition costs, site development, and engineering and architectural services.
The program will provide awards up to $3 million for infrastructure projects.
Grant recipients must have all funds obligated no later than Dec. 31, 2024, and expended by June 30, 2026, the release said.
