Ann Pagel, 84, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday morning, May 24, 2022, at her home. Funeral service:
2 p.m. Friday, May 27, at Jamison-Schmitz Funeral Home in Oelwein with the Rev. Josh Schunk officiating. Visitation: 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Annabel Loyd was born Nov. 6, 1937, in Fayette, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and LaVon (O'Dell) Loyd. She was raised in Fayette County and graduated from West Union High School. Ann joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Texas, California and Oklahoma for six years. While in the service, Ann met and married Marvin Threlkeld. They were blessed with three children, Cheryl, Thomas and Karen. Ann and Marvin later divorced. Ann moved back to Iowa, where she met and married Robert Dale Pagel. They made their home in Decorah, where Ann worked as a postal clerk at the Decorah Post Office until retiring in 1997. They were blessed with their fourth child when they adopted their granddaughter, Molly.
In her younger years, Ann enjoyed horseback riding and the time she spent on the family farm. She later enjoyed reading, flower gardening, watching television with the family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Ann is survived by her daughter: Molly Pagel of Decorah; two grandchildren, David Fox of Independence and Amanda Pambin of Cresco; seven great-grandchildren, Mara Schnuelle, Brandon Fox, Erica Fox, Abbie Fox, Conner Fox, Edward Pambin Jr. and Josephine Pambin; son-in-law, Duane Fox of Independence; sister, Helen (Wayne) Bentley of Fayette; brother, Tom (Mary) Loyd of Hawkeye; and nieces and nephews.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Robert on Dec. 27, 1998; three children, Cheryl Threlkeld, Tom Threlkeld and Karen Fox; and four brothers, Louis Loyd, Hank Loyd, Robert Loyd and John Loyd.
