Ronald Douglas Wittenberg Sr., 76, of Ely, passed away May 16, 2022. Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
He was known as "Ron" to friends and "Doug" to family, though his favorite was being called "Honey" by his wife, "Dad" by his kids and "Grandpa" by his grandkids.
Doug is survived by his wife of 32 years, Lori; his daughters, Brenda Lovell of Des Moines, Ronda (John) Welper of Vinton and Lisa (Darrell) Rouse of Vinton; his son, Ronald Jr. of Cedar Rapids; stepson, Shane Trimble of Cedar Rapids; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Doug was born Aug. 30, 1945, and lived his life his way from the beginning and he loved his family until the end. He could fix anything, loved to rebuild tractors, and created the most beautiful pond so that he and his entire family would have a place to enjoy whenever they wanted. Even after retirement he stayed busy with gardening, yard work, fixing something, and even building a zipline. His love and laughter will be missed dearly but never forgotten.
In lieu of memorial contributions, donations may be made in Doug's memory to the American Heart, Kidney or Lung Association.
