Money sought for riverfront could be better spent

A May 6 Gazette article stated that the city of Cedar Rapids was applying for a $27 million grant to beautify their river front area. With that money the city could buy 300 houses from area slumlords and sell them to deserving families with a 0 percent interest mortgage. Not only would that combat homelessness, the city would recoup the money over time. But I understand that some winding walkways with brass railings is what the city wants.
