Cedar Rapids
Marilyn McConkey Boyles, 65, passed away on May 15, 2022. A memorial visitation and celebration of life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 26, at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home.
Marilyn is survived by her husband, Roger Boyles; Roger's sons, Jason (Laurie) Boyles and Josh (Shannon) Boyles, who she considered her own; grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Landon, Maddie and Noah. Marilyn was passionate about reaching out and connecting to her biological family. She was blessed to meet them.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Carolyn McConkey; and brother, Jim McConkey.
Marilyn grew up in Cedar Rapids. She attended the University of Iowa and graduated from Coe College. She moved to Milwaukee, Wis., and worked for Miller Brewing Company for a time. She returned to Cedar Rapids and worked for Life Investors/Aegon, now Transamerica, retiring three years ago. She was a member of Toastmasters International and became the Third Ranking Officer in District 19.
Marilyn and Roger loved spending time together biking, fishing, having adventures and quiet moments. Roger knew instantly he would forever be in love with Marilyn (Marlin). Her bubbly personality was always welcoming and genuine. She loved connecting with people, both friends and family. She loved her puzzles and her cats who helped comfort her. Marilyn's faith was her cornerstone; she was a light to many. She will be missed dearly.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to JDRF, American Cancer Society, Ralph C. Smedley Memorial Fund (Toastmasters) or a local Humane Society. Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.cedarmemorial.com under obituaries.
