During the fall of 1955, she moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she enjoyed teaching in the public school system for eight years. On Sept. 15, 1962, they were happily married at First Congregational Church in Grinnell, Iowa. They had two children, Mark and Jennifer.
Bonnie was a member of Christ Episcopal Church (previously St. Michael's) in Cedar Rapids and a member of Chapter DK in P.E.O. She enjoyed being a member of various educational organizations for many years. She loved spending time with her family and following her three grandchildren's exciting adventures. If you ask family and friends what they loved most about Bonnie, you are sure to hear them say she was one of the most patient, kind and gracious people that they had ever known. She will be missed dearly and will forever hold a precious place in so many hearts.
Bonnie is survived by her husband, Gene Schmidt of Marion, Iowa; two children, Mark (Terri) Schmidt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jennifer (Blair) Johnston of Waukee, Iowa; and three grandchildren, Bridget, Jaron and Jackie Johnston.
