DARLENE GRACE (ROMIG) STERNS

Darlene Grace (Romig) Sterns, 86, passed away at the Oldorf Hospice House in Hiawatha, Iowa, on Tuesday, May 3, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. A visitation will be offered from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 5, at Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, May 6, at Cedar Memorial Capel of Memories with Pastor Dave officiating. Interment to follow at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery-Resthaven.
Darlene was born Aug. 8, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa. She was the daughter of the late Earl Daniel Western and Floy Alta (Clark) Romig. She enjoyed playing bingo, and crocheting hats for kids in need. She enjoyed playing card games and Wii bowling. She was a world famous baker, especially her holiday pies and her homemade noodles.
Those left to cherish Darlene's memory are her daughters, Linda Updike of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Jennifer (Clifford) Shannon of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her sister, Edith LaGrange of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; her grandchildren, Melody Updike, Candra Updike, Matthew Noehl, Reign Shannon and Tami (Jack Rainer) Johnston; and her great-grandchildren, Cameron Updike, April Doty, Megan Kline, Kimberly Cavins and Zachary Spencer.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her ex-spouses, Alvin LaGrange and William Sterns; and her siblings, Rosalie Walker, Billy Romig, Sr., Regina LaGrange, Renee LaGrange, Jeff LaGrange and Connie LaGrange.
The family would like to thank the entire staff at the Oldorf Hospice House for all the love and support they showed, Darlene, while she was in their care.
