Jeffrey Douglas "Doug" Butler, 73, passed away on April 13, 2022, after a short illness.
Doug was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to the late Kenneth and Vera Merrit Butler on Jan. 18, 1949, where he joined his sister Carlotta Jane.
Doug graduated high school at Jefferson High in 1967, then to Burlington where he attended and graduated with an Associate's degree in science. After graduation, Doug enrolled in the U.S. Army where he proudly served our country in the Vietnam War. After his return, Doug worked and went to night school at Mt. Mercy College in Cedar Rapids, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree.
Doug lived a wonderful full life, always ready for a new adventure. Doug is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy Dunn Butler, Omaha, Neb.; six children, Chris Curtis (Kristine), Green Bay, Wis., Kate VanBerkum (Jamie), Cedar Rapids, Matthew Akers (Ashley) and Stephanie Cruchelow (Tim), both of Davenport, Conrad Butler (Sarah), Omaha, Neb., and Aaron Butler (Trisha), Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; his sister, Carlotta Butler Starn, Lisbon; mother-in-law, Naomi Dunn, Pharr, Texas; sister-in-law, Tammy Dunn Pray; three nieces and two nephews; and many great-nieces and -nephews and great-great-nieces and -nephews.
Per Doug's request, there will not be a funeral, but a Celebration of Life from 4 to 8 p.m. Saturday, June 18, at his niece and nephew's home Al and Jodi Becicka located 3800 Holly Dr. SW, Cedar Rapids. Please come and help his family celebrate his life.
