Margaret "Peg" Young, 71, of Richmond, died Friday, April 22, 2022, at her home following a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. A funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 28, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman with Father Bill Roush and Deacon Derick Cranston officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery in Richmond. Visitation will be held 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 27, at the church. A rosary/prayer service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, prior to the visitation at the church. Beatty-Peterseim Funeral, Cremation Care and Monument Service is assisting with arrangements. A memorial fund has been established for St. Joseph Catholic Church and Hospice of Washington County.
Peg was born Feb. 5, 1951, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Leo and Helen (Smith) Kinney. She graduated from Clear Creek High School, Oxford, in 1969 and was united in marriage to Richard Young on Nov. 28, 1970, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford, Iowa.
She was employed with the University of Iowa as custodial services west manager for Resident Services for 42 years, retiring in November 2021. She was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a former Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader. Peg also enjoyed bowling and baking.
Survivors include her husband, Richard "Dick" of Richmond; children, Angela (Jeff) Goodwin of Kalona, Michael Young of Duluth, Minn., and Elsa (Daniel) Marie of Coralville; three grandchildren, Ryann Riggan, Kaleb (Taylor Heald) Goodwin and Baylee Goodwin, all of Kalona; siblings, John Kinney of Oxford, Marcia (Kenny) Walters of Oxford, Tom (Deanna Dickens) Kinney of Oxford and Tim (Nancy) Kinney of Oxford; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
