Robert "Bob" C. Petersmith, 68, of Cedar Rapids, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. A visitation with Bob's family will take place from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, April 29, at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories followed by a memorial service at 3 p.m. A livestream of the memorial service may be accessed on the funeral home website under the obituary for Robert Petersmith, under the video tab starting at 3 p.m. Friday, April 29. Entombment: Cedar Memorial Mausoleum.
Bob was born Sept. 14, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Richard L. and Betty J. (Davenport) Petersmith. Bob served his country in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage to Mary M. O'Brien on May 19, 1979, at Squaw Creek Park in Marion, Iowa. Bob retired after 38 years from Quaker Oats in Cedar Rapids in 2013. Bob was immensely proud of his Naval service. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed watching old Westerns. Bob loved being a proud grandpa.
Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Mary of Cedar Rapids; sons, Curtis Petersmith (fiancee Michelle Ruhs) of Palo, Cory Petersmith of Cedar Rapids and Bryan Petersmith (fiancee Kate Peiffer) of Hiawatha; grandchildren, Jaelyn, Alex, Aria, Quinten and Everly; sisters, Ellen (Rex) Smith of Cedar Rapids, Susan Kelsey of Columbus, Ind., and Mary Kristen Howe of Shell Beach, Calif.; and brother, Richard (Jodi) Petersmith of Cedar Rapids.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Richard and Betty Petersmith.
Memorials may be directed to St. Luke's Hospice in Cedar Rapids.
