Harold A. Downing, 85, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 21, 2022, at Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha, Iowa. Visitation: 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. Funeral service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. at the funeral home.
Harold was born May 29, 1936, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Floyd and Flora (Hoskins) Downing. He graduated from Bloomfield High School in 1953 and attended Missouri State Teacher's College. Harold was united in marriage to Patricia Jones on Dec. 27, 1957, in Cedar Rapids. He was a millwright that worked for Pen Ford and Ralston Foods before his retirement in 1995. Harold was a member of the Eagle's Club for 50 years and a member of Grain Millers Local 100. He loved hunting, fishing and going to the casino. Harold will be missed by those who knew and loved him.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia Downing; children, Steve, Susan and David Downing; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Harold was preceded in death by Floyd and Flora Downing and grandchild, Alan.
