3rd man arrested in New Year’s Day robbery

The crime was a home invasion robbery in Cedar Rapids where a gun was fired
CEDAR RAPIDS — A third man has been arrested in connection with a robbery on New Year’s Day in Cedar Rapids.
Lamon Arnelle Boyce, 20, was arrested Thursday on charges of first-degree robbery and violation of probation. Boyce was on probation in relation to a drug charge that he pleaded guilty to in 2020.
Boyce, of Cedar Rapids, was part of a group that entered a Cedar Rapids home in the 1600 block of Eighth Avenue SE and demanded marijuana from two people, according to criminal complaints.
DeWayne L. Hunt, 20, who was arrested in January for the robbery, had a loaded Glock handgun and fired a shot during a struggle with the residents, court documents state.
Hunt, of Cedar Rapids, was held by the residents until police arrived, the criminal complaints state. Interviews with witnesses and video surveillance led to Boyce and Martavius Jameel Northern, 19, being identified as the other perpetrators.
Northern, of Cedar Rapids, was arrested Tuesday and charged with first-degree robbery. He is being held in the Linn County Jail on a $20,000 cash-only bond.
Boyce is being held on a $35,000 cash or surety bond.
Hunt was released from jail in January after posting a $35,000 surety bond. He has a jury trial scheduled for August.
