Richard Allan "Rick" Clymer, a lifelong resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Tuesday, April 5, 2022. Visitation will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Monday, April 25, at the Cedar Memorial Park Funeral Home.
Rick was born March 20, 1945, in Cedar Rapids, to William "Art" Arthur Clymer Jr. and Valada "Val" Anna (Thenhaus) Clymer on their 18th wedding anniversary. He graduated from Washington High School in 1963 as an Honor Society member, was a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship scholarship recipient in 1968, and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1973 from the University of Iowa. He was a part-time Linn County mental health patient advocate, a part-time legal assistant to a Cedar Rapids attorney, a part-time radio broadcast technician for KQCR-FM and First Deputy Linn County Auditor. He was appointed court administrator to the Sixth Judicial District in Iowa in 1982, where he served many years. His mother introduced him to the piano, launching a lifetime love of classical and marching band music.
He married Debra Klegseth in 1969, later divorcing, and is survived by three children, Adam Clymer of Cedar Rapids, Anna (Liam) Hamill of London, U.K., and Paula Kent of Cedar Rapids; five grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Cynthia Clymer; six nephews; the Willis Family; and his close friend, Arthur "Bud" Kudart.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Bill.
