This Friday, both Jones and Buchanan counties are hosting Earth Day-themed hikes.
In Jones County, the Jones County Conservation Board Naturalist is hosting an "Earth Day Woodland Wildflower Walk" on Friday at 10 a.m. at Pictured Rocks Park, 5 miles south of Monticello at the end of Park Road. In the spirit of Earth Day, attendees can enjoy the spring wildflowers and welcome sounds of spring, while also picking up any litter. Bring your camera, work gloves or garbage-grabbing tools and camera. Hiking shoes are advised. For more information or to register, call Michele at (319) 481-7987 or visit https://www.jonescountyiowa.gov/conservation/
In Buchanan County, the Buchanan County Conservation Board will host an Earth Day hike at 5 p.m. at the Fontana Nature Center, 1883 125th St., Hazleton. Explore what is new and popping out in the woods, and also learn about the importance of protecting and preserving the area. The program is free; however, registration is recommended at www.buchanancountyparks.com.
