A Marion man charged with kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in an apartment complex last year has been found competent to stand trial. Logan Mitchell Isaac was ordered to undergo a competency evaluation in January and his case was temporarily on hold until the evaluation was completed. Isaac was charged in July 2021 with one count each of first-degree kidnapping and willful injury causing bodily injury, and two counts of third-degree sexual abuse. A woman told Marion law enforcement she had arranged to meet a man, later identified as Isaac, on April 24, 2021, to provide a massage at Moundview Manor, 2501 Highway 13, according to a criminal complaint. After Isaac let the woman into the building, he attacked her and placed his arm around her mouth and neck and forced her into a bathroom. He confined her in the bathroom, placed her in a headlock and forcefully "head-butted her several times, causing visible bodily injuries,” then sexually assaulted her, according to a criminal complaint. A trial is expected in September or later.
A decommissioned World War II-era destroyer, named after the Sullivan brothers of Waterloo, docked near downtown Buffalo in New York is taking on water and listing perilously but officials believed it would be saved. Crews were working to keep the USS The Sullivans from sinking at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park, where it had been open for tours. Park president Paul Marzello said they believe there was a breach on the right side of the hull last Wednesday night. He said crews trying to stabilize the 79-year-old vessel are pumping out up to 13,000 gallons a minute. Emergency repair crews, including an underwater diving team, are at the scene working to determine what caused the breach.
