Country club plans will harm quiet neighborhood

OK, fine. The Cedar Rapids Country Club will reimburse the city for part of the recently repaved Fairway Terrace if its proposal to vacate the street is approved by the City Planning Commission. That’s not the main issue with my neighborhood.
Funny enough, we just don’t want parking lots with lights crowding our homes and streets. We don’t want berms and buildings encroaching on backyards. We don’t want a quiet tree-lined street turned into a driving range for golfers and the huge poles and nets that go with it. We don’t want Byzantine traffic patterns and overflow parking making our friendly streets unsafe. But the main thing we hope is that the city will not overvalue commercial interests. What about the residents of this fair city? Remember Second Avenue? Here we go again? I certainly hope not.
