Corridor group Inclusive ICR on Monday will launch its Diversity Equity and Inclusion Index — an assessment to gauge where an organization stands in terms of its DEI policies and practices — for area employers.
The confidential assessment is free through May 13 and is available to small and mid-sized for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
The DEI Index was created and will be scored by third-party assessment company Reliant, based in Tulsa, Okla. The assessment along with more details can be found at index.inclusiveicr.org.
The assessment focuses on five elements, Inclusive ICR said in a news release:
- Community outreach — The employer publicly supports diversity and inclusion work in Eastern Iowa.
- CEO commitment — Diversity, equity and inclusion is one of the organization’s stated values and/or priority areas.
- Diverse suppliers — The organization has a written diversity supplier statement that is shared on its external website.
- Diverse people — The organization has programs or efforts in place to recruit diverse candidates, develop a pipeline of leaders and provide targeted development for diverse employees.
- Internal policy — Company offers floating time off for employees to observe events of personal or religious significance.
Analyses are expected to be sent to participating employers within six weeks of submission, the release said. The assessments will note “where a company is thriving in the DEI space (as well as) identify areas in need of attention and opportunities to grow.”
A DEI online resource library — listing resources and best practices among other next steps for Corridor employers — will be posted after the assessments, the release said.
The DEI Index assessment was made possible by Inclusive ICR along with ICR Iowa, the Cedar Rapids Metro Economic Alliance, Iowa City Area Business Partnership and the Iowa City Area Development Group.
Inclusive ICR is a coalition of more than 90 employers that on its website states its mission as growing “diversity and inclusion in (the) workforce throughout the region.”
