MAURITA ANN HALDY

Maurita Ann Haldy, 87, of Traer, passed away Monday, April 11, 2022, at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church in Traer. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church with the Rev. Benjamin Baker officiating. Interment will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 16, at Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Maurita was born Nov. 28, 1934, to Sidney and Margaret (Burns) Blencoe of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Maurita attended and graduated from McKinley High School (1952) and eventually Coe College (1956), both in Cedar Rapids. At the Coe library, she met and later married her husband, Dr. Willard Haldy D.D.S. They were married Aug. 11, 1956. In their early marriage, they lived in Iowa City while he attended the University of Iowa College of Dentistry and she taught at Horace Mann Elementary School.
Later, they settled in Traer, Iowa, where they raised their family and became active members of the community. After her children were grown, Maurita reentered the work force as a teacher in area schools. The many community projects that she participated in included the renovation of the Traer movie theater, the revitalization of the public library, and the establishing of the new Traer Salt and Pepper Shaker Museum. She was an active member of the Traer Iowana Club and St. Luke Lutheran Church.
Maurita was a voracious reader, a lover of cooking, and enjoyed traveling and quilting. She was a lifelong Iowa Hawkeye Sports fan. She also loved attending and cheering at many North Tama Redhawks sporting events. She had many other interests that included gardening, bird watching, decorating and taking road trips. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
Although her life may have appeared ordinary to some, she was extraordinary to her family and she will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 65e years, Dr. Willard Haldy of Traer; daughter, Elizabeth Hoselton of Hudson; son, Dr. Glenn Haldy of San Diego, Calif.; and two granddaughters, Natalie Hoselton of Los Angeles, Calif., and Olivia Hoselton of Chicago, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Beverly Lawrence; and her in-laws, Fred and Marie Haldy.
Memorials in her honor may be made to the Traer Theater or the Traer Public Library.
