Leo Joseph LaLonde, 94, went to heaven Palm Sunday morning, Sunday, April 10, 2022. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 13, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Vinton with Father Jim Brokman as celebrant. Interment will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Vinton. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home Chapel, 212 E. Sixth St., Vinton. Memorials may be directed to St. Mary's Catholic Church or Catholic Charities.
Leo was born March 31, 1928, in Yankton, S.D., the son of R.A. and Katherine (Slimgen) LaLonde and graduated from Yankton High School with the Class of 1946. Following high school, Leo served his country in the United States Army from 1946 to 1948. He was stationed in Korea during his service. On Sept. 12, 1951, he was united in marriage to Audrey Hayslip at Marty Mission South Dakota, and was a very well trained husband. Leo was in the lumber business all of his adult years. He was very active in the Catholic church.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey of Vinton; children, Marty (Judy) LaLonde of Little York, Ill., Ann (Bryan) Edwards of Vinton and Jane (Dave) Feldman of Mount Vernon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Matt LaLonde, Megan Parsons, Natalie Nesbitt, Nathan, Nolan, William, Weston Edwards, Joe, Josh and Jacob Feldman; as well as eight great-grandchildren, with two more arriving this year.
Leo was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Eckholt.
