Betty L. Kelly, 94, of Iowa City, passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2022,
at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics. Per the family's wishes, a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Betty was born in 1927 to John and Alta (Rossiter) Nolting in Chicago, Ill. She graduated from Iowa State University, where she received her bachelor's degree in textile science and applied design. She then went to the University of Iowa where she received her Master's degree and her Ph.D. She married William Kelly, and together they had four children. Betty was a professor at the University of Iowa for 11 years then at Kirkwood Community College up until her retirement in 2000. She lived a very active life and was a member of numerous organizations.
She is survived by her three loving children, Katherine Kelly, Kevin (Madonna) Kelly and Dr. Kristopher (Mary) Kelly; four grandchildren, Charlie (Michelle) Kelly, Benjamin Kelly, Snezhall (DJ) Missell and Melissa (Randy) Foliente; and great-grandchildren, Siona, Eero, Eris and Syrikit.
Betty was preceded in death by her loving husband; her son, Keenan Kelly; and her parents.
Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society or Johnson County Historical Society.
