DOUGLAS FRANKLIN HOWE
Marion
Douglas (Doug) Howe passed away on Monday, March 28, 2022, in Iowa City, Iowa, due to complications from a recent surgery.
Doug was born in 1962 in Coon Rapids, Minn., the son of John and Elaine Howe. He graduated from Linn Mar High School in 1980.
Doug is survived by his wife, Kathleen C. Howe; children, Chloe (Andrew) Howe, Thomas (Diedre) Howe and Ashley (Paul) Miller; and brothers, Roger Howe, Tim (Susan) Howe and Curt (Jane) Howe. He was preceded in death by his parents, John R. and Elaine E. Howe.
Memorials may be made to UIHC Children's Hospital and the Iowa Humane Alliance.
Doug was gregarious and welcoming, always ready with a warm bowl of soup, a big hug, and a funny story to share. Doug was fiercely loyal and devoted to his family (both chosen and biological) and was invested in their lives.
Doug enjoyed reading, music and cooking, and frequently hosted holidays at his home with his wife Kathy. He and Kathy also fed and cared for a colony of stray neighborhood cats – working with the Iowa Humane Alliance to ensure their health.
His energy is not gone, it's just less orderly - it will find a different purpose in the universe.
