She was born Nov. 12, 1932, the second of five sisters to the late Joseph and Sophie (Podrebarac) Barbich in Chicago, Ill. She married Harold Hufford on July 31, 1954.
Ann is survived by her children, Hal (Jana), Joe (Karen), Mike (Tracy), Paul, Carol (Brendan) Deely, Cathy and Beth; grandchildren, Katelyn (Winston) Price, Royce Hufford, Matthew Hufford, Megan Hufford, Mallory Hufford, Adam Hufford, Ben Hufford, Margot Deely, Nora Deely, Maeve Deely and Isaiah Deely; great-granddaughters, Blakely Price, Lennox Price and Kolbi Price; and sisters, Barbara (Nick) Marino, Joy (Mort) Debs and Christine Barbich.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold; her sister and brother-in-law, Violet and Richard Furjanic; and her grandson, Gabriel Deely.
Whether she was in Chicago, where she was proud to be born and reared Barbich or with Harold raising their seven children in Mount Vernon, Iowa. Ann was surrounded by friends or immediately finding new friendships. From her 1971 Kirkwood LPN and nursing practice she kept lifelong friendships. From her sons' sport careers with Iowa Hawkeyes she remained a devoted fan and friend of the game, coaches and players. Always she needed and wanted to be out and about with old friends to movies, theatre or playing board games simultaneously making new friends wherever she went. If you met Ann, you were no longer a stranger. Most of all, she loved her family and missed no opportunity to celebrate with them.
As she requested, her body has been donated to the University of Iowa Anatomy Department. Mass of celebration will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 9, at St. John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon. The Mass will be available via Livestream at www.stjohnmv.org, then click the YouTube link in the top right corner. Luncheon to follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Community Health Free Clinic in Cedar Rapids at www.communityhfc.org or St. John's Catholic Church in Mount Vernon at www.stjohnmv.org/giving.
