Jack Wethington, 75, of Tipton, formerly of Stanwood, died Sunday, April 3, 2022, at Cedar Manor Nursing Home and Apartments in Tipton. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 8, at Goettsch Funeral Home in Anamosa with the Rev. Clayton officiating. Burial will be in Center Point Cemetery, Center Point, Iowa, where military honors will be accorded. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 7, at the funeral home. Jack William Wethington was born May 9, 1946, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of James and Juanita (Grapes) Wethington. He attended schools in Solon and was a member of the Solon High School, Class of 1964. He served his country in the United States Air Force, earning an honorable discharge. He was employed as an automotive mechanic and worked for several local automobile dealerships, later owning and operating J & R Auto Repair in Stanwood. He retired in 2004. He married Ruby Lovell Simmons in Stanwood in 2005.
He enjoyed fishing, camping, hunting and anything that had to do with the outdoors. He was a gun enthusiast and loved to spend time tinkering around his garage. He played the guitar and would sometimes join the group Joe and the Boys. Even though he could be cantankerous he enjoyed spending time with his family and many friends.
Jack is survived by his children, David (Lisa), Gastonia, N.C., Robert (Wendy), Gastonia, Wendy (Stewart) Davis, Anamosa, Brandon, Anamosa, Deb (Doug) Labs, Center Point, and Ron (Annette) Lampheir, Vinton; 15 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; and his siblings, David (Janet), Tipton, Mark (Terry) Stanwood, Warren (Laura), Tipton, and Anita Heick, Tipton.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby, in 2017; a son, Jim; his parents; and a brother, Neal.
The family would like to thank the staffs of Cedar Manor Nursing Home and Apartments, UnityPoint Hospice, Jones Regional Medical Center's Wound Clinic, and the Visiting Nurses of the Cedar County Public Health Department.
