Ultra-conservativism flourishes in Iowa

I moved back to Cedar Rapids a year ago, after nearly 50 years of living elsewhere, to be nearer to friends and family in my dodder age; but certainly not because I subscribe to the same political views as the prototypical average Iowan. Specifically the anti-Democrat, the 100 percent for progress and 100 percent against change voters; whose elected officials are allowed to hang onto their jobs for life like a Supreme Court justice. Reading the letters to The Gazette these past few months has done nothing to lead me to believe that philosophy has changed since the early 70s. But it is quite amazing to this observer that these pro-conservative zealots have indoor plumbing and electricity in their homes; along with a motorized vehicle in their garage. Thank heaven for Todd Dorman and his alternate and apparently nerve-touching view of the local political landscape.
