Alice M. Broxey, 96, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, March 31, 2022. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, April 3, at Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids. A funeral service will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, April 4, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Linwood Cemetery in Cedar Rapids.
Alice was born Jan. 4, 1926, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of John and Orpha (Pollock) Humphreys. She graduated from Roosevelt High School. Alice was united in marriage to Jack Broxey on Sept. 27, 1948, in Cedar Rapids. She worked as a secretary to the owner of Smulekoff's Furniture Company for 50 years until her retirement in 1994. Alice enjoyed watching and feeding the birds. She loved spending time at the cabin in North Buena Vista, Iowa. Alice was the most selfless person you would ever meet, always helping and feeding others – you never went away hungry.
Survivors include her daughter, Sheryl McFall of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren, Stacy Sponsel of Cheyenne Wells, Colo., Laura (Brian) Mattison of Marengo, Iowa, Jacklyn (Ryan) Taylor of Sneads Ferry, N.C., and Bobbie McFall (Katelyn Edwards) of Cedar Rapids; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and former son-in-law, Bob McFall of Virginia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Orpha Humphreys; husband, Jack Broxey, in 2002; brothers, Charles, Richard and Johnny Humphreys; and grandson-in-law, Kelly Sponsel.
Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association.
