David L. McGaughy, 55, of Fort Dodge, passed away Sunday, March 27, 2022, at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home.
A visitation will be 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, April 2, in the chapel of Laufersweiler Funeral Home. A prayer service will begin at 7 p.m., with military rites provided by the U.S. Marine Corps and the 133rd Test Squadron of the National Guard. Family and friends are invited to the VFW Post
1856 immediately following the services.
Dave is survived by his wife, Crystal of Fort Dodge; his children, Ashley (Matt) Leising of Littleton, Colo., and Adam (Jessica) Klass of Fort Dodge; grandchildren, Tavian Klass, Caleigh Klass, Blake Leising and Cameron Leising; parents, Richard and Sue McGaughy of Cedar Rapids; and sister Ellen McGaughy of Cedar Rapids.
David Leigh McGaughy was born April 14, 1966, in Hamilton, Ohio. In 1984, he graduated from Cedar Rapids Kennedy High School. He then attended Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio. With great pride, he followed in his father's military footsteps and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps on May 13, 1986. David served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1999, he then served in the U.S. Air Force, until retiring from recruiting and retention in 2014. On June 13, 2009, he was united in marriage to Crystal McKellips and the couple made their home in Fort Dodge. He was a commandant of the Midwest Iowa Detachment. He was a member of the Marine Corps League, American Legion and ABATE. He was the president of the Fort Dodge American Legion Riders and vice president of the Enlisted Association of National Air Guard of Iowa. Dave enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles and side by sides. He loved his family and friends deeply. Once you met Dave, you were a friend for life.
