Deon James Duwa, 56, of Washington, Iowa, died Monday, March 28, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospital following a sudden illness.
The family will be present at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 2, to celebrate Deon's life. Interment will take place at a later date. Memorials have been established for Cedar Crest Golf and Country Club for tree planting or Paws and More Animal Shelter. Deon was born March 21, 1966, in Washington, Iowa, the son of Dean Walter and Connie Ann (Potter) Duwa. He attended Highland Community Schools where he graduated from high school in 1984. Deon was united in marriage to Julie Kron on Aug. 30, 1985, in Washington, Iowa.
Deon lived most of his adult life in Washington, Iowa. He worked at the Wal Mart Distribution Center in Mount Pleasant until his retirement in 2021. He was an avid bowler and golfer. He participated on several bowling leagues for over 30 years and was inducted into the Washington, Iowa, branch of the United States Bowling Congress Association Hall of Fame for Meritorious Service. Deon was a loyal member of the Cedarcrest Golf and Country Club in Columbus Junction where he served on the Board of Directors for many years and was board president for nine years. He enjoyed mushroom hunting, attending stock car races and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Duwa of Washington, Iowa; parents, Dean and Connie Duwa of Ainsworth, Iowa; sister, Christina Hughes and husband Troy of Plainfield, Ill.; sister, Angela Moore of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; sister, Julie Quickel and husband Jay of Overland Park, Kansas; 12 nieces and nephews, Jennifer, Kyle, Cayden, Ali, Jesse, Juliana, Jack, Matt, Nevin, Garrett, Aaron and Averi; father-in-law, Richard "Butch" Kron of Riverside, Iowa; sister-in-law, Lori Tucker and husband Jason of West Branch, Iowa; brother-in-law, Jim Kron and wife Jerri of Riverside, Iowa; and his beloved cat, Rowdy.
Deon was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Janet Kron.
