LUELLA "LOU" POSTEL
Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.
Luella Roseline Postel, 81, of Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., formerly of Central City, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, March 19, 2022.
Lou was born in Howard County, Iowa, to Louie and Rose (Koester) Decker. She grew up on a farm and always enjoyed time outdoors the most. She graduated high school in Lime Springs, Iowa. Her special gifts and talents were sewing, planting and taking care of flowers. In her younger days she loved to dress up in skirts, dresses and heels, and dance. She also enjoyed and played softball. Her team won third in state! Appearance meant a lot to her and she always did her makeup and hair first thing in the morning. She always loved jewelry and to go shopping! Her best characteristic was that she smiled a lot. Her dream once she graduated high school was to work for "Look" magazine in Des Moines; however, she did not have a car and settled on working where her older sister worked, in Cedar Rapids at Rockwell Collins. That was fate, because she soon after met Curtis at a dance in Marion. They were married Sept. 3, 1961. They built a house and settled in rural Central City for many years prior to moving to Florida in 2016, where her oldest daughter lives. Her happiest time in life was when she got married and when her two daughters were born and graduated college. She took pride in how successful in life her daughters became.
Lou is survived by her daughter, Norma Maurer (Bob) and their children, Rachel, Adam, Bailey and Carly; daughter, Deb Hendrickson (Steve) and their children Olivia and Evan; sisters, Betty and Arlene (Jerry); and brother, Louie Jr. (Irm). Lou also was blessed with many friends. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carl (Marie) and Donald; and brother in-law, Bernard. Her husband Curtis preceded her in death this past August, just shy of 60 years of marriage.
A memorial service will be held later this spring in Iowa. She will be buried beside Curt at Wilcox cemetery in Fairview.
Lou battled with Multiple Sclerosis for over 30 years. She always said it brought her closer to God. Donations can be made in honor of her to the MS Society.
Arrangements are under the direction of Emerald Coast Funeral Home, Fort Walton Beach, Fla. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at emeraldcoastfuneralhome.com.
