Donald L. Campbell III, 62, of Highlands Ranch, Colo., passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Saturday, March 19, 2022, at Denver Hospice Care Center in Denver, Colo., following a long illness.
Don (rrRamble) was born Oct. 7, 1959, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Janice and Donald Campbell Jr. He served his country in the U.S. Navy for four years and attended Kirkwood Community College and the University of Iowa, studying engineering and computer science.
Don met his best friend and lifelong partner, Lynette "Nettie" Nerad at a local bookstore in Iowa City in 1991 and they moved to Denver, Colo., later that year. Their favorite date night tradition was spending time in bookstores reading together.
Don had a zest for life that was unmatched. He enjoyed spending his time in the mountains, playing golf, rebuilding computers and all things aviation.
Don is survived by his life partner, Lynette Nerad; aunt, Judith Matias; sister, Debra (John) Hankins; nephews, Justin (Hayley) Hartgrave, Steven and Mitchel (Michelle) Kinney and Joseph Hankins; niece, Leaha Campbell; great-nieces, Mallori, Kaylin, Alysin and Rhylin Kinney, Natalie and Ruby Hartgrave; and great-nephews, Mason Kinney and Roman Hunt.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Blanche Hach; parents, Janice and Donald Campbell Jr.; uncle, Robert Matias; and brother, Jamison Campbell.
A Celebration of Life is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at The Sanctuary Church in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Veterans Administration or American Cancer Society in honor of Don.
The family also wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the nurses and staff at the Denver Hospice Care Center.
