Jack was born Jan. 14, 1944, in Oskaloosa, Iowa, to Roy and Ruth (Odell) Lindstrom. The family moved to the Anamosa/Olin area in 1956. He graduated from Olin Consolidated High School in 1962. After graduation, he became employed at Collins Radio for a short time, before enlisting in the U.S. Navy Reserve in 1964 – 1966, being honorably discharged. He then resumed his employment at Collins Radio. It was there he met and later married the love his life, Susan "Susie" Welbourne, of Cedar Rapids. They would have celebrated 55 years of marriage this coming November.
Jack began a 44-year career in the automobile business, beginning as a salesman at First Avenue Plymouth in Cedar Rapids in 1969. He then joined Bruce McGrath Pontiac in Cedar Rapids in 1976 for several years as their new car manager. He joined Allen Motor Co. in 1985, working multiple management positions until 2001. He purchased, owned and operated Lexington Motor Co. in Marion until he sold it and semi-retired in 2013, working part-time for the new owner. He was known for his integrity throughout the years and knew many of his customers personally, many becoming friends.
Jack embraced life and lived it in every way with family and friends. He and Susie hosting many events at their home, traveling many places, either with family or friends in the car or on their motorcycle. One of his and Susie's favorite things was riding through the Rocky Mountains on their motorcycle. He liked his old cars and with Susie along, drove their '62 Chevy on many cruises and Hot Rod Power tours throughout the country. Jack actively participated in motorsport competitions and competed in AMA (American Motorcyclist Association), NHRA (National Hot Rod Association), and IHRA (International Hot Rod Association) sanctioned events for over 30 years. He loved his Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers, and had more than a passing interest in music. Beyond that and most deeply, he loved his Lord Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He loved his wife and children to the maximum. He and Susie were longtime members of Calvary Baptist Church. He loved singing in the choir and actively serving on various committees and boards. He was a founding member of the long-running "Garage Ministry" in the Cedar Rapids area.
