According to the National Weather Service, we can expect a partly sunny day in the Cedar Rapids area, with a high near 56. Winds from the south 10 to 15 mph then from the southwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph. Then tonight, it should be mostly cloudy, with a low around 29.
If state lawmakers go along with legislation already approved by the Iowa House, it could be the last time Iowans have to go through the twice-a-year ritual of changing their clocks — if Congress agrees, too. In a floor debate, Rep. Mike Sexton, R-Rockwell City, cited research from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine warning of the dangers of seasonal time changes. Any change in the twice-a-year clock change also would be dependent on Congress because federal law does not allow full-time daylight saving time. Under the Uniform Time Act, states may exempt themselves from daylight saving time. Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and most of Arizona do not observe daylight saving time at all.
In men’s basketball, the Iowa Hawkeyes defeated Purdue Sunday, 75-66 at Indianapolis in the Big Ten men’s basketball tournament championship game. The triumph catapulted Iowa toward the NCAA tournament with a 26-9 record and produced its first title in this event since 2006. Keegan Murray had a game-high 19 points and broke the record for total points in this tourney with 103. Murray was named the tourney’s Most Outstanding Player, and Bohannon was on the all-tournament team.
